Youths Take ‘Dead Man’ To Police Station

A group of angry youths in Delta State, Nigeria, recently took to the streets to protest the killing of a young man who was allegedly shot dead over a #100 bribe by some police officers

The incident reportedly occurred along the Ugbolu-Asaba road.

The youths blocked a major road in Asaba to draw attention to the injustice

and carried the corpse of the deceased to the Delta State Police Headquarters.

Reports say the man was shot and killed after refusing to pay a #100 bribe demanded by the policemen.

However, the incident has caused an uproar among the people of Delta State, with many calling for a thorough investigation

and justice for the slain young man.

The protest also highlights the need for the Nigerian police force to improve their ethical standards

and accountability to the people.

Many Nigerians have lamented the increasing cases of police brutality, extortion,

and extrajudicial killings in the country, leading to several protests and demonstrations.

The government recently set up a judicial panel to investigate police brutality and related crimes.

Still, many have accused the panel of being toothless and not providing adequate recourse to the victims of police brutality.

The Nigerian police force has a moral and legal obligation to protect the lives of Nigerian citizens and maintain law and order.

The increasing cases of police brutality and extrajudicial killings are a threat to the nation’s peace and security, and relevant

authorities must hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions.

“The Delta state police command has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident, and the government

must provide that the relevant authorities conduct a thorough investigation into the case to provide justice to the slain man’s

family  and loved ones”, a man said.

Taking everything into account, the incident highlights the need for the government to address the root causes of police brutality.

Effective reforms and strict enforcement of ethical standards within the police force will go a long way

in restoring the trust and confidence of the citizens in the force.
