Scores killed As Hausa And Fulani Fight In Sokoto
A recent conflict between the Fulani and Hausa people of Gwandabawa, Sokoto State, has reportedly led to several deaths and injuries, including that of a security operative.
Gwendabawa, a local official, stated that the people were living in fear of possible reprisal attacks from the Fulani bandits.
Adding that residents had been unsettled by the surge in violence in the area.
Survivors of the conflict who spoke to reporters provided harrowing accounts of their experiences during the altercation.
One survivor said “My relative was attacked with knives, but fortunately, charm did not allow it to pierce his skin
“As a result, the Fulani bandits intensified the attack on him, eventually hacking off his head from his body.”
Similarly, a Fulani survivor of the violent communal clash also narrated how he was shot twice, but managed to survive.
“He begged his assailants not to kill him, but they continued to shoot at him.”
Meanwhile, it was also reported that many locals from both sides lost their lives in the fracas.
VOA Hausa revealed that police in Sokoto was still awaiting details of the attack at the time of their reporting.
Also indicating that it was not clear what led to the violent confrontation.
However, it is understood that the region has experienced several attacks perpetrated by Fulani bandits over time.
