The police at Ibara divisional headquarters, the DPO Ibara division, CSP Abayomi Adeniji, quickly mobilized his anti-robbery and surveillance teams.

Sighting the policemen, the robbers opened fire, but were forced to flee due to the superior firepower of the policemen.

With the assistance of the marketmen, one of the robbers later identified as Adeniji Sakiru, 32 years old, was apprehended.

Unfortunately, a trader in the market, Dayo Bankole was shot during the incident and died while receiving treatment at Hospital.

SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed the incident and said that the outgoing Commissioner of Police now AIG, Frank Mba, had ordered a massive manhunt for the remaining members of the gang to bring them to justice.

He appealed to the public to inform the police if anybody with a gunshot injury is seen in their area.

The police commended the market men for their assistance in capturing the robber.

Also added that they had recovered one double-barrel locally made gun and assorted criminal charms from the apprehended robber.

CSP Abayomi, expressed his satisfaction with the operation conducted by his officers and emphasized that his team was well-prepared in tackling criminal activities.

He appreciated the collaboration between the police and members of the Amotekun corps.

The Chairman of the market union, Taofeek Solarin, thanked the police for their swift response to the incident. While also commiserated with the family of the deceased trader.

He urged the police to continue their efforts in securing the area and warned criminals to steer-clear of the market.

The Ogun State government commended the security agencies for their prompt response to the situation. The government also urged them to be vigilant in their efforts to curb crime in the state.

The arrested robber, Adeniji Sakiru, will be transferred to the State C.I.D for investigation, according to the outgoing Commissioner of Police now AIG, Frank Mba.
