Election Dates Finalized: Kwara FA Congress Makes Key Decisions for Future of Football

The Kwara State Football Association ( Kwara FA) Congress convened on May 13th, 2023, at an Extraordinary Assembly held at Mandate Hotel in Iloffa, Oke-Ero Local Government Area.

During the meeting, they decided on important matters, including the State election scheduled for June 13th, 2023, which will take place in Kaiama Local Government Area.

The primary focus of the Extraordinary Assembly was to discuss election-related issues.

It was also agreed upon that the remaining six Football Councils, namely Asa, Ifelodun, Barutein, Ilorin West, Kaiama, and Moro, would hold their elections on May 17th, 2023.

Mallam Idris Abdullahi Musa, the FA Chairman, expressed his appreciation for the historic gathering and promised that the FA’s impact would be felt across the three Senatorial Districts. Meanwhile, he commended the Congress members for their participation and emphasized that the purpose of the assembly was to finalize the elections for the Local Football Councils and set a date and time for the State FA election.

He noted that the Councils’ elections had been delayed due to a court case.

Mallam Idris, popularly known as Thuraya, also commended the Vice Chairman of the FA, Bashorun Kayode Bankole, for hosting the Congress.

The Congress acknowledged that the current tenure of the Electoral and Appeals Committees would expire after the May 17th Football Councils Elections.

Consequently, new Committees were approved and constituted to take over immediately.

Mr. Emmanuel Dada Obafemi was appointed as the new Chairman of the Kwara FA Electoral Committee, alongside Professor AbdulGafar ljaiya, Mrs. Serah Bola Esan, Engr. Abdulkareem Ayinde, and Mohammed Jimoh Oke as members. Mallam Jimoh Yinusa Kehinde was appointed as the Chairman of the Appeals Committee, with Barrister A. Ojibara, Alhaji Sule Abbas Ahmed, Alhaji Aliyu Baba, and Bunmi Adedoyin as members.

The Congress was declared open by Ambassador Oluwamigbe Yusuf, the Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) Chairman of Oke-Ero Local Government Area, who commended the State FA and Bashorun Kayode Bankole, Chairman of Oke-Ero Football Council, for choosing their council as the host of the Extraordinary Congress.

He praised the FA’s efforts in elevating not only Kwara United Football Club but all other clubs in the state and acknowledged their commitment to grassroots development of the game.

Bashorun Kayode Bankole, Chairman of the Oke-Ero Football Council, expressed gratitude to the FA and the Congress for their support in promoting football development.

However, he affirmed the local government’s ongoing investment in empowering youth through sports, recognizing it as a valuable tool for their meaningful development.

At the conclusion of the proceedings, the Congress extended its gratitude to FA Chairman Thuraya for ensuring the effective functioning of the FA in the state.
