Kwara State Government Restores Five-Day Workweek for Civil Servants

The Kwara State Government has decided to return to the previous arrangement, where Civil Servants will now observe five working days.

This decision comes after a temporary reduction in working days from 5 to 3 was implemented in response to challenges arising from the removal of fuel subsidy.

In an official statement issued on Tuesday, and signed by Okedare Adeyinka on behalf of the Head of Service, the Kwara State Government clarified that the initial reduction in working days was a temporary measure and a demonstration of good faith.

However, the government believed it was necessary while waiting for a comprehensive national policy response that would address the impact of subsidy removal and provide better solutions for all parties involved. Presently, the Federal Government and Organised Labour are collaborating to develop more effective interventions that will mitigate the effects of the subsidy removal.

Given the ongoing efforts to devise better strategies, the state government has deemed it necessary to return to the previous arrangement of five working days per week for Civil Servants.

Meanwhile, This change will take effect from 10th July 2023. The decision affects all Heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) as well as workers across various categories.

Furthermore, the statement assured workers who were not initially included in the reduced workdays period that they would receive stipends as a gesture of appreciation for their understanding during that time.
