Tinubu Urges House of Reps to Provide N500 Billion in Palliatives

Nigeria’s President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has sent a letter to the Federal House of Representatives, requesting an amendment to the 2022 supplementary appropriation act.

The purpose of this amendment is to allocate N500 billion towards providing relief measures for Nigerians, in order to lessen the impact of the removal of fuel subsidies.

However, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, read the president’s letter aloud. In the letter, President Tinubu expressed the need to amend the 2022 supplementary appropriation act in order to secure funds for essential relief measures.

These measures are intended to mitigate the adverse effects of fuel subsidy removal on the Nigerian population.

The letter stated that a sum of N500 billion has been specifically allocated from the 2022 supplementary appropriation act, which initially amounted to N819 billion, 536 million, 937 thousand, 803 naira. This allocated amount is intended to provide relief measures for Nigerians and alleviate the consequences of subsidy removal.

President Tinubu appealed to the lawmakers to give prompt consideration and approval to his request, emphasizing the urgency of providing relief measures to the Nigerian people.

After reading the president’s request, Speaker Abbas announced that the House would commence the consideration of the request during Thursday’s plenary session.
