Fire Destroys Building, Shops in Offa Kwara State, Causing N39.6m Worth of Damage

 

In the early hours of Thursday, a devastating fire incident ravaged a building comprising four bedrooms and ten shops at Ile Olola Compound, Essa Junction along Olofa Way, Offa Local Government of Kwara State.

The blaze, which broke out around 01:35 hours, resulted in property losses amounting to N39.6 million.

According to reports, the Kwara State Fire Service was alerted to the incident by a distress call from Mr. Habeeb in Ilorin.

Responding swiftly to the emergency, fire fighters arrived at the scene to confront the raging inferno, skillfully containing its spread and preventing damage to neighboring structures.

However, Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was triggered by a power surge within the building.

Despite the prompt action of the firefighters, the four-bedroom building and ten shops suffered considerable damage, with four bedrooms and three shops being significantly affected and rendered unsafe for occupation.

In light of the incident, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, the Director of Kwara State Fire Service, emphasized the importance of preventive measures to avert future calamities.

Nevertheless, he advised residents and property owners in the state to install and maintain appropriate fire safety measures, such as surge protectors, circuit breakers, and fire extinguishers.

He further that taking these precautions could play a vital role in safeguarding lives and properties in the event of unforeseen emergencies.
