Heartbreaking Loss: 36 Officers Martyred in Niger State Ambush and Helicopter Crash

 

In a somber announcement, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) revealed that 36 valiant officers lost their lives in Niger State.

Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, unveiled this heartrending toll while delivering a comprehensive account of the recent devastating incidents.

The casualties encompassed both the ambush of troops in Niger State and a tragic helicopter crash on August 14, 2023.

The poignant revelation unfolded during the biweekly briefing hosted by the Defence Media Operations, shedding light on the grim reality faced by the nation’s defenders.

As questions surrounding the cause of the helicopter crash abound, Major General Buba emphasized the ongoing investigation aimed at uncovering the truth. He cautioned citizens to remain vigilant against the potential spread of terrorist-driven misinformation and fervently urged unwavering patriotism.

The Zungeru area of Niger State bore witness to insurgents launching a deadly ambush on troops, resulting in the ultimate sacrifice made by some brave members of the Nigerian Army.

Adding to the string of recent tragedies, a Nigerian Air Force MI-171 Helicopter, en route for a critical casualty evacuation mission, met a fateful end on Monday. The ill-fated incident transpired within the confines of the Shiroro Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, casting a solemn shadow over the region.
