Naira Marley Visits NDLEA, Urges Youths To Shun Drug Abuse

Naira Marley urges fans to avoid drugs after meeting NDLEA boss

Popular Nigerian singer, Naira Marley, who is known for his songs and videos that glorify drug use and other social ills, has advised his fans and Nigerian youths to stay away from drugs. He made this statement during his visit to the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Brigadier General Buba Marwa, on Thursday in Abuja.

The singer, whose real name is Azeez Fashola, said on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, that he had joined the NDLEA’s campaign against drug abuse and urged his fans, who call themselves Marlians, to stop using any form of substance that could harm their health. He also said he had held talks with various stakeholders, including the African Union Chair, the U.S. Secretary of State, and others, to seek a solution to the Niger coup.

“I’ll like to urge my fans – Marlians and all Nigerian youths to stop doing drugs because it’s not good for your well-being. Stop substance abuse of any form; I’ve keyed into this campaign to support the NDLEA to stop drugs on the streets. It’s not good, it makes you go back to doing crime,” Naira Marley said.

The NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, confirmed the singer’s visit and expressed his support for his advocacy. “See who’s on board ⁦@ndlea_nigeria⁩ War Against Drug Abuse advocacy campaign; it’s your favourite, Naira Marley,” he said.

The PRISTINEGIST reports that in February 2022, two of Naira Marley’s associates, Zinoleesky and Mohbad, who are also singers, were arrested by the NDLEA after a raid on their residence in Lagos. The agency said it recovered cannabis and Molly from their apartment and car. The two singers had featured Naira Marley in their songs and videos.
