Two Married Men Allegedly Gang-rape 11-year-old Girl

An 11-year-old girl was gang raped by two married men in Abia State. The suspects, Ezigbo and another man, attacked her on Sunday, August 20, 2023. She was running an errand for her widowed mother in Ndiolumbe Nvosi village.

Ochiegbu Marvelous, the coordinator of Behind Bars Human Rights Defenders, confirmed the incident on Tuesday, August 22. He said Ezigbo has been arrested and the police are looking for the other man. He also said some people want to settle the case out of court.

“We are human rights activists and lawyers who hate injustice. I received these complaints from a poor widow in Nvosi Isiala Ngwa. She said ‘Nwam biko come and help me ooo. They raped my 11year old girl ooo and they are talking about settlement,’ ” Mr. Ochiegbu said.

“We represent the little girl. We don’t accept settlement. Imagine this girl as your daughter. What would you do? They kept mute!

“The case is at Area command Isialangwa Police station. But I am not happy that a male Police Constable is handling it. I think a female officer should do that best.

They will face trial after the police finish their investigation.”

The victim said Ezigbo had been harassing her before.

“My mommy sent me on Sunday evening. Ezigbo saw me and called me. I refused and said I was not interested,” she said.

“I changed my route to avoid him. But he appeared again at a school. He said ‘I finally caught you.’

“I ran to Dee Sunday’s house but he was not there. I stayed for a while. I thought Ezigbo had gone but he and the other man caught me when I came out.

“Ezigbo covered my mouth so I could not scream. They dragged me to a place and tore my clothes and pant. They raped me.”
