‘A Tribe Called Judah’ Makes Nollywood History, Surpasses N1 Billion Mark

Funke Akindele’s newest movie, ‘A Tribe Called Judah’, has made history by becoming the first Nollywood film to earn N1 billion in box office revenue.

The movie, which was released on December 15, 2023, reached the impressive milestone in just three weeks, creating a historic moment for the Nigerian film industry.

The CEO of FilmHouse Group, Kene Okwuosa, praised this achievement, stating that Nigeria’s cinema is entering a new phase of growth and global recognition. In a formal statement, Okwuosa underscored the importance of this achievement, presenting it as a proof of the enduring appeal and resilience of Nigerian cinema in the face of fierce competition from international streaming platforms such as Netflix and Prime Video.

‘A Tribe Called Judah’ had a stunning debut, breaking a new record as the first Nollywood movie to collect over N113 million in its opening weekend in cinemas. The movie, which premiered on December 15, 2023, instantly won the hearts of moviegoers and soared to unparalleled box office success.

This remarkable feat follows the previous success of Funke Akindele’s ‘Battle on Buka Street’, which earned N650 million at the box office in 2022, further establishing Akindele’s role as a force in the Nigerian film industry.
