ABBA KYARI REGAINS FREEDOM AFTER 27 MONTHS IN DETENTION

Controversial Police Officer Released on Bail to Conclude Mother’s Burial Rites

Abuja, Nigeria – In a dramatic turn of events, suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, has been released from the Kuje Custodial Centre after spending 27 months behind bars. Kyari’s freedom came after meeting his bail conditions granted by a Federal High Court in Abuja on May 22, 2024.

The court had earlier denied Kyari’s bail requests multiple times, but recent circumstances surrounding his mother’s passing led to a reevaluation. Kyari’s mother, Yachilla Kyari, passed away on May 5, prompting the court to grant him bail to attend to her burial rites.

As part of his bail conditions, Kyari was required to surrender his passport and report to the nearest NDLEA office during the bail period. The court has scheduled a hearing for May 31, 2024, to review Kyari’s main application for bail regarding the drug trafficking charges.

According to the Nigerian Correctional Service spokesperson, Adamu Duza, Kyari has perfected his bail conditions and was released on Friday. This development marks a significant milestone in Kyari’s legal battle, which began with his arrest on February 14, 2022, for alleged involvement with an international drug cartel.
