Adamawa Election Result To Be Announced On Thursday

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to announce the results of the Adamawa State governorship election on Thursday, barring any further unforeseen circumstances.

This announcement comes after a controversial and dramatic election in which the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Aisha Dahiru Binani, was unilaterally returned as duly elected by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Hudu Yunusa-Ari on Monday 17th April 2023.

The Commission suspended Yunusa-Ari on Monday for usurping the powers of the Chief Returning Officer and sparking a controversy in the process.

The INEC will hold a meeting as a “Commission” between Tuesday and Wednesday to discuss the matter, according to Dr Festus Okoye, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.

It is important to note that the returning officer, not the resident electoral commissioner, is responsible for declaring election results.

In light of this situation, the INEC has summoned both Yunusa-Ari and Mele Lamido, the returning officer in the election, to its headquarters in Abuja.

This move suggests that the Commission is taking the events in Adamawa State very seriously and that they are determined to ensure that the election results are fair and valid.

Many people have been following this election closely due to its controversial nature. It is expected that the INEC’s announcement on Thursday will be met with a great deal of scrutiny from political analysts and the public.

Regardless of the outcome, it is clear that the INEC is committed to upholding the integrity of the Nigerian electoral system and ensuring that every vote counts.
