Assassins Shoot Pastor, Kill His Wife In Edo Church
A pastor’s wife, Peace Chinyereugo, was killed by suspected assassins who attacked her husband, Rev Samuel Chinyereugo, and his church in Benin City on Monday night.
The pastor of God’s Vineyard of Grace Dominion Assembly, located at 101, Upper Lawani Street, New Benin, was driving with his wife to the church around 7:36pm when they were followed by a car with three armed men inside.
As soon as the pastor parked his car in front of the church, where some members and the assistant pastor were rehearsing for a programme, one of the gunmen approached him and grabbed his cross pendant. The other two gunmen then shot at the pastor and his wife from behind.
The pastor’s wife was fatally wounded and died at a hospital a few hours later. The pastor and his assistant pastor, who was also injured on his head, survived the attack and were treated and discharged.
The police spokesperson in the state, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident and said that the police are investigating the motive and identity of the assailants. He assured that the police will bring them to justice.
