Bandits Kill Student, Demand N100m For Her Sisters

A tragic story of kidnapping and murder has shaken the nation, as bandits killed a 400-level student of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, and demanded a whopping N100 million ransom for her five sisters.

The victim, Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, was one of the six daughters of Alhaji Mansoor Al-Kadriyar, who were abducted by the bandits on Tuesday night in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory. The bandits also killed Alhaji Mansoor’s brother, Abdulfatai, who tried to resist their attack.

The family received the news of Nabeeha’s death on Friday, and buried her according to Islamic rites on Saturday. Nabeeha was studying biological science at ABU, and was described by her relatives as a brilliant and promising student.

The bandits had initially demanded N60 million ransom for the release of the girls, but later increased it to N100 million, threatening to kill more of them if the money was not paid. The remaining victims are Najeebah (500 level, Quantity Surveying), Nadheerah (300 level, Zoology), and three other sisters whose names and details are yet to be confirmed.

The incident has sparked outrage and sympathy on social media platforms, especially “X”, where many users have been using the hashtag #Najeebahandhersisters to call on the authorities to intervene and rescue the girls. Some prominent figures, such as former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami, and former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, have also expressed their condolences and concerns on the matter.

The family and well-wishers of the victims have been appealing for financial assistance from the public to raise the ransom money. A relative of the victims, Sherifdeen, posted the bank details on his Facebook page, saying: “We humbly seek financial assistance. We have been given Friday, January 12, 2024 to look for the money. That is N10 million per child.”

Meanwhile, the force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the police and other security agencies have been working hard to rescue the abducted persons and apprehend the bandits. He urged the public to cooperate with the security operatives and provide any useful information that could lead to the arrest of the criminals.
