Bloodbath in Kwara: Gunmen slaughter king, kidnap queen and two others

A reign of terror has gripped Kwara State as a group of armed men invaded Koro town and murdered the traditional ruler, Oba Segun Aremu-Cole, in cold blood.

The attackers stormed the palace of the king around 7 pm on Thursday and shot him dead before abducting his wife and two other people.

Koro Ekiti is a border town between Kwara and Kogi states, where insecurity has been rampant.

This is the latest in a series of killings of traditional rulers in the state, following the deaths of two other monarchs in Ekiti State earlier this month.

The state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has expressed outrage over the brutal assassination of Oba Aremu-Cole and vowed to bring the culprits to justice.

He said the killing was “reckless, shocking, and abominable” and urged the security agencies to spare no effort in rescuing the kidnapped victims and arresting the killers.

He said: “We will certainly get the perpetrators and ensure that this is their last crime against humanity.

“My profound condolences go to the people of Koro. Our hearts are broken, and we stand by them at this time and always.”

The state police commissioner, Victor Olaiya, has not commented on the incident yet.
