Boko Haram Victory: 60 ISWAP Fighters, Key Leaders Captured in Ambush

In a recent development, Boko Haram forces have reportedly captured a significant number of terrorists, including high-ranking commanders from the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP).

The incident occurred as the ISWAP militants were en route to Damasak in Borno State.

Among the captured terrorists are three key figures identified as Abubakar Saddiq, Abou Maimuna, and Malam Idris, all reputed ISWAP commanders. The event marks a notable escalation in the ongoing rivalry between these two extremist groups.

Zagazola Makama, an expert in counter-insurgency and security analysis within the Lake Chad region, shared insights via his social media platform.

According to Makama, clashes between Boko Haram’s Buduma factions and ISWAP led to the Boko Haram forces gaining the upper hand. As a result, ISWAP fighters were forced to retreat to heavily fortified hideouts in the Kukawa, Madayi, and Kwatan Mota areas.

The confrontation took place on August 13, 2023, and resulted in the capture of approximately 60 ISWAP militants, including the three mentioned commanders.

These prisoners were subsequently transported to an underground prison cell near KWATAN MOTA, located close to Dogon Chukwu, where they were held as Prisoners of War.

A video emerged depicting Boko Haram fighters celebrating their triumph over ISWAP. Additionally, an alleged Boko Haram commander expressed gratitude to his fellow militants for their dedication to the cause.

He emphasized that their unwavering commitment to Islam had contributed to their success in repelling the ISWAP threat and maintaining control over territories.

The incident sheds light on the complex power dynamics within extremist groups operating in the region and underscores the ongoing struggle for dominance among these factions.”
