BREAKING: Bloodbath as Gunmen Hijack Bus, Kill Driver, Abduct All Passengers in Lagos-South East Route

A horrific incident of kidnapping and murder has rocked the nation as gunmen suspected to be kidnappers ambushed a GUO motors bus travelling from Lagos to the South-East and killed the driver before abducting all the passengers on board.

The only survivor of the attack was a little girl who was left behind by the kidnappers after they took her parents and other travellers. The girl was seen crying and pleading for help in a video that went viral on social media.

The exact location and time of the incident are still unclear, but sources say it happened on Friday along the Lagos-South East route. A voice in the video claimed that the bus had stopped at Akure for a meal before resuming its journey.

The gruesome attack has sparked outrage and condemnation from various quarters, including Senator Ned Nwoko, who is sponsoring a bill on self-defence at the National Assembly. The Senator blamed the security agencies for failing to protect the lives and property of Nigerians and argued that if the driver or the passengers had been armed, they could have resisted the kidnappers.

The Senator’s bill, which seeks to allow Nigerians to carry firearms for self-defence, has also received support from many Nigerians who expressed their frustration and anger over the rampant cases of kidnapping and banditry in the country.

Some of the comments on social media read:

@flourish007: “I agree with you here Mr Senator because one of the main reasons citizens should be allowed to carry firearms for self-defense is the fundamental right to protect oneself and loved ones from harm. … If kidnappers know that they are not likely to succeed and return to their forests, they will stop.”

@francis_ranco: “You are right on this, Oga. Self defence is the most effective way of self preservation. Nigerians must be allowed to defend themselves. If the govt fails to adhere to this, dem go explain tire later!”

@solexcasa: “It is evident that this incident happened a few minutes before the security personnel arrived. Why are they not going after the kidnappers? Why are they speaking to the girl and contaminating the crime scene? Why are men of the @PoliceNG so unprofessional in their conduct?”

The fate of the abducted passengers is still unknown as no ransom demand or contact has been made by the kidnappers. The police have also not issued any statement on the incident as at the time of filing this report.
