BREAKING: Neil Critchley sacked as QPR head coach

Queens Park Rangers (QPR) have sacked their head coach, Neil Critchley after the Sky Bet Championship match at MKM Stadium, Hull.

Critchley’s assistants, Iain Brunskill and Mike Garrity have also left their roles.

The decision to part company with Critchley comes after QPR’s 3-1 defeat by Middlesbrough on Saturday, a result which leaves them 17th in the Championship table, eight points above the relegation zone.

The loss against Middlesbrough was QPR’s third in a row, with Critchley struggling after his appointment in December.

The 44-year-old was appointed on a three-and-a-half-year deal following Michael Beale’s departure to Rangers but since his arrival, QPR has won just once in 12 Championship games.

Critchley took charge at QPR with the west London side ninth in the table and three points off of the play-offs. They have accumulated just eight points during the former Blackpool head coach’s tenure.

Critchley had previously worked as Steven Gerrard’s assistant at Aston Villa but left that when the former England international was sacked earlier this season.

Before that, Critchley had guided Blackpool to promotion to the Championship in his first full season in charge, the 2020-21 campaign. He linked up with Gerrard, who had worked with him in the youth set-up at Liverpool, ahead of the 2022-23 season.
