In the 10th Assembly’s election for Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, a member of the House of Representatives who represents the Zaria constituency, won.
He triumphed over Aminu Sani Jaji and former Deputy Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives Ahmed Idris Wase.
The 10th House of Representatives’ Speaker will be Tajudeen Abbas, who was proposed by departing Majority Leader Alhassan Ado-Doguwa. Nnolim Nnaji offered a second for this motion.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has chosen Tajudeen Abbas as its candidate for speaker, while Ado-Doguwa himself has withdrawn from the campaign. A candidate for the role of Deputy Speaker in the 10th national legislature has also been proposed by the ruling party.
Several MPs, notably Idris Wase, voiced their objection to the APC’s choice of Abbas.
