The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara Command, has apprehended Abdulsalam Ajibola, 42, for allegedly impersonating a soldier in order to defraud members of the public of money.

This is stated in a statement made available to journalists in Ilorin on Monday by the command’s public relations officer, Olasunkanmi Ayeni.

Mr. Ayeni stated that the command’s tracking unit, acting on information, tracked the suspect to Oke-Onigbin, Isin Local Government Area, Kwara, where he was apprehended on March 24.

“Ajibola was alleged to have impersonated a soldier to defraud one Abdullahi Saheed to the sum of N700,000 and Ropo Gabriel to the tune of N96,000.

“He promised to help them get admission into the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna,” Mr Ayeni stated.

According to a spokesman for the command, the suspect also allegedly duped one Prophet Samuel Olugbemiga into converting his Toyota Picnic car for commercial transportation under the guise of assisting the latter in driving it.

Mr Ayeni claimed that after obtaining possession of the car, Ajibola fled with it.

The NSCDC official, on the other hand, stated that the suspect would be arraigned in court shortly after the command completed its investigation.
