Coach Dogo Delivers: Kwara United’s Stunning Win Lifts Spirits in Ilorin

In a riveting encounter on Thursday, the 21st of December 2023, Coach Kabiru Dogo’s tactical brilliance guided Kwara United to a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Plateau United in NPFL matchday 15, bringing much-needed relief to the Harmony Boys’ faithful in Ilorin.

The city had been simmering with tension due to Kwara United’s lackluster performance, particularly on their home turf.

Before the crucial clash, Coach Dogo, with a strategic move, introduced a new star, Adelani Adeseun, wearing jersey no 26 and formerly associated with Kano Pillars and Shooting Stars.

Adeseun’s presence injected a renewed sense of hope among Kwara supporters and fans who were elated to witness the former striker’s debut, chanting for more opportunities to see him in action.

Under Coach Dogo’s leadership, Kwara United, previously at the 14th spot on the log with 16 points, managed just three wins, seven draws, and succumbed to four losses in 14 games.

Frustration had reached a peak as the team dropped points at home on four occasions, leaving both management and supporters disillusioned.

In an attempt to reignite fan enthusiasm, the gates were thrown open, but early frustrations heightened when Albert Hilary struck a stunning free-kick, giving Plateau United the lead in the 20th minute.

Despite the challenges, Coach Dogo’s determined squad showed resilience, with Captain Kabiru Balogun leveling the terms through a remarkable 20-yard free kick in the early 70s.

Momentum swung in Kwara United’s favor with the introduction of new players, including the promising Adelani Adeseun, and super substitute Sadeeq Yusuf, under Coach Dogo’s strategic decisions, secured victory with a goal seven minutes before the end of regulation time.

However, Sadeeq’s elation turned to disappointment as he received a red card for removing his shirt during the goal celebration, setting the Kwara State Stadium Complex abuzz with mixed emotions.

In the first half, Plateau United’s Yakubu Adams was also shown a red card after receiving a second yellow for impeding Ifeanyi Odinnega in a goal-bound move.

Despite Albert Hilary’s second attempt at a free kick hitting the woodwork during the intervals, Kwara United, under the leadership of Coach Dogo and with the promising debut of Adelani Adeseun, sealed the win. They now climb to the 11th position on the table with 19 points.

Looking ahead, Coach Dogo’s determined squad, now bolstered by the addition of Adeseun, faces Kano Pillars in their next away match, aiming to build on this victory and overcome the three-match ultimatum issued by the management.

The victory not only lifts Kwara United in the standings but also marks the promising beginning of Adelani Adeseun’s journey with the Harmony Boys.
