Corper Stabbed To Death By Robbers While Jogging

A female corps member serving in Kaduna State has been killed by suspected armed robbers while jogging on Wednesday morning, October 18, 2023.

 

The victim, identified as Grace Chalya Silas, was a graduate of Special Education from the University of Jos. She was reportedly attacked and robbed of her belongings by some unknown assailants who also stabbed her to death.

 

The incident has sparked outrage and grief among her friends and former course mates, who have taken to Facebook to mourn her and demand justice. They described her as a hardworking and cheerful person who had a bright future ahead of her.

 

One of her friends, Comfort Elisha, wrote: “No na. What is really happening to Jossite and Special Education department! We haven’t finished mourning Kekefas Emmanuel and now it’s Chalya, brutally killed in Kaduna during her morning jogging while serving her father land. May your killer’s know no peace chalya. This is too much to bear.”

 

Another friend posted: “What is life all about? Struggle and just be killed by anyone while u go for morning jugging? Or u sleep and don’t wake up? What is life? What is life? What is life? Chalya, u left a big wound, that will take a while to heal. The people behind your death shall no know peace. It’s hard to say goodbye. But rest well with the Lord”.

 

The police have not yet issued any statement on the case, but sources say they are investigating the matter and trying to track down the perpetrators.

 

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is a one-year mandatory scheme for Nigerian graduates below the age of 30, aimed at promoting national unity and development. However, many corps members have faced security challenges and other difficulties in their places of assignment.
