Court Remands Man For Sexual Assault On 56-Year-Old Stroke Patient

On Monday, an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan ordered the detention of one Bello Jamiu in Agodi Correctional Centre for allegedly raping a 56-year-old stroke patient.

The defendant was remanded pending legal advice from the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecution, according to Chief Magistrate E. A. Idowu, who did not take the defendant’s plea due to a lack of jurisdiction.

He then adjourned the case until May 16 for further consideration.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Bello is facing a rape charge.

Bello had illegal sexual contact with the 56-year-old woman on March 14 at around 4:00 p.m., according to the prosecution’s attorney, Insp. Femi Oluwadare.

Oluwadare claimed that the defendant raped the victim against her will while she was ill from a stroke and lying on a bed.

According to him, the crime was committed in Okikiade, the Ajala neighborhood, Babanla, and Ibadan.

He claims that the offense violates Section 357 of the Criminal Code and is punishable under Section 358 of the Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
