Dancing Governor Urged to Open Dance Academy by Muslim Group

In a surprising move, a prominent Islamic human rights organization has praised the dancing skills of Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State and urged him to open a dance academy for the youth of the state.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) said in a statement on Monday that Governor Adeleke, who is known for his energetic and entertaining dance moves, should not let his talent go to waste. The group suggested that the governor could either open a dance school or invest in the arts department of the Osun State University with a focus on dancing.

The statement, signed by MURIC’s Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, said that such a move would boost the state’s tourism, entertainment and revenue generation. It also said that Governor Adeleke had a potential legacy to leave behind in the state.

“Governor Adeleke has become popular with his dancing skill. He shows off his skill at every given opportunity, at public functions and official sittings. It is one thing that he takes great joy in doing,” the statement read.

“We admit that even his opponents admire his skill while his supporters are thrilled by his dancing. One can never have a dull moment with Governor Adeleke around. He does it with passion and takes great pride in it. Such skill should not be allowed to waste away.”

The statement added that opening a dance school or investing in the university’s arts department would also benefit the youth of the state, who could learn from the governor’s example and develop their own talents.

“This is one way Osun can make the best of the present situation. Adeleke has a potential legacy already,” the statement concluded.

Governor Adeleke, who is the uncle of popular singer Davido, has been a subject of controversy and admiration for his dancing skills. He has often been seen dancing at various occasions, such as campaign rallies, weddings and official events. He has also featured in some music videos, such as Davido’s “Osinachi Remix” and “Aje”.

The governor, who is a member of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), won the Osun State governorship election in 2023 after a rerun. However, his victory was challenged by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Gboyega Oyetola, who was declared the winner by the Supreme Court in 2024.

The governor has not responded to MURIC’s statement or indicated any interest in opening a dance school or investing in the university’s arts department. However, some of his supporters have welcomed the idea and expressed their admiration for his dancing skills on social media.
