Doctor Sentenced To Life Imprisonment For Defiling Wife’s Niece

A Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja has sentenced the Medical Director of Optimal Cancer Care Foundation, Doctor Olufemi Olaleye, to life imprisonment for the defilement and sexual assault of his wife’s niece.

Justice Rahman Oshodi delivered the judgment on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, after finding him guilty of the two counts of defilement and sexual penetration of a 15-year-old girl.

The judge held that the prosecution was able to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt and that all the evidence before the court corroborated that of the victim.

Olaleye was arraigned on November 30, 2022, by the Lagos State Government, following a complaint by his wife, Aderemi Olaleye, who testified that her husband had been sexually abusing her niece during her stay with them.

She told the court that Olaleye had introduced pornography and oral sex to the girl and had ejaculated in her mouth on several occasions.

She said the abuse started in March 2020 and lasted till July 2021, when the girl confided in a relative and their driver that Olaleye had been sleeping with her and threatened to kill her and his wife if she told anyone.

The prosecution also presented medical reports and other exhibits to prove that Olaleye had unlawfully had sexual intercourse with the girl and sexually assaulted her by penetrating her mouth with his penis.

The offences committed by Olaleye contravened Sections 137 and 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, which prescribe life imprisonment for defilement and sexual assault by penetration.

Olaleye had pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail in the sum of N50m with two sureties in like sum who must have landed property in Lagos state.

He was also ordered to deposit his international passport including his British passport and original documents of landed property to the registrar of the court.

However, he could not escape justice as Justice Oshodi found him guilty as charged and sentenced him accordingly.
