Drama As Emefiele Dodges Camera In Court

The suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, was brought to the FCT High Court on Thursday by the DSS operatives who have been holding him since his arrest on June 9. Emefiele, who was suspended by President Bola Tinubu over allegations of corruption and abuse of office, was shielded from the media by his lawyers who prevented journalists from taking pictures and recording videos of him.

Emefiele greeted his legal team in court and awaited the commencement of his trial. The Federal Government had dropped the initial charge of illegal possession of firearms against him and filed new charges bordering on conspiracy, procurement fraud, and conferring unlawful advantages, among others.

Emefiele is accused of mismanaging the funds of the CBN and granting undue favours to some individuals and companies. He has denied any wrongdoing and challenged his suspension in court.
