Driver Accuses Boss Of Tricking Him Into Donating Kidney For $20m

A driver in Lagos has accused his former boss of tricking him into donating one of his kidneys to his brother, promising him $20 million and a house in America, but failing to deliver.

Nwoko Eric, 42, said he worked for the managing director of a company in Ikeja, who asked him to drive his sick brother to Saint Nicholas Hospital for dialysis in 2018.

He said his boss told him his brother’s kidney had failed and he would die in a week, unless he donated one of his kidneys to him.

Eric said his boss prayed for him and rubbed a liquid substance on his head, before making him the offer.

“He told me that he would give me 20 million dollars, buy a house for me in America and connect me to his rich friend in America where I would be driving big cars. I was excited,” he said.

He said he agreed to the donation and underwent surgery on December 22, 2018, after the doctors confirmed his kidney matched his boss’s brother.

However, he said he did not receive any treatment or compensation after the operation, and his boss forced him to resume work with a meagre salary and threatened to deduct money if he missed work due to health issues.

He said he confronted his boss several times about the money and the house, but he kept delaying and avoiding him.

He said he finally told his mother about what happened on October 13, 2023, and she contacted a lawyer to help him get justice.

His mother, Mrs Gloria Nwoko, said her son was dying and needed medical help. She said she was unaware that he had donated his kidney until he called her.

She said she wanted his boss to keep his promise and help her son survive like his brother.

The lawyer, Tony Dania, said they had reported the case to Zone 2 Police Command and some policemen had arrested the boss.

He said the case was a serious crime of organ sale and forgery, as the boss’s sister had posed as Eric’s wife and signed the consent form for the surgery.

He said Eric did not read or understand what he signed in an office before the operation.

He said they wanted the police to do their best and ensure that Eric got justice.
