The state’s minimum pay for employees has been increased by the Edo State Government from N30,000 to N40,000.
Governor Godwin Obaseki stated in a statement made on Tuesday that this was confirmed.
As citizens struggle with the consequences of the loss of the gasoline subsidy, Obaseki also announced the reduction of working days from five to three.
He reassured that his administration will support the workforce “in these very challenging times”.
Obaseki added that his government would use every effort to lessen the suffering of the populace.
The statement reads, “As a proactive government, we have since taken the step to increase the minimum wage paid to workers in Edo state from the approved N30,000 to N40,000, the highest in the country today,”
It also added that “the Edo State government is hereby reducing the number of work days that civil and public servants will have to commute to their workplaces from five days a week to three days a week till further notice. Workers will now work from home two days every week.”
