EFCC arrests two internet fraudsters at Skales’ house

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested two suspected internet fraudsters at the house of a popular Nigerian singer, Skales, in Lekki, Lagos.

The suspects, identified as Udemba Chukwuemeka (a.k.a Jody) and Jamal Jamiu Onasola (a.k.a. Jamal), were nabbed on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, by the operatives of the Lagos Command of the EFCC.

According to the EFCC, the duo were involved in dating scam, where they duped unsuspecting victims by posing as lovers online. They also described Skales, whose real name is Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, as their “mentor”.

The EFCC said that Chukwuemeka had been living in Skales’ house for two years, while Onasola had only stayed there for a few months.

The anti-graft agency said that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

Meanwhile, Skales has accused the EFCC of invading his house on Monday night and assaulting him and his producer. He claimed that the EFCC officials broke into his house with guns, sticks, hammers and other weapons.

He also denied any involvement in internet fraud and said that he was only hosting his friends at his house.

He posted a video on his Instagram page showing the alleged assault and wrote: “EFCC is a criminal organisation. They came to my house with guns, sticks, hammers and all sorts of weapons. They assaulted me and my producer. They said we are internet fraudsters. This is a lie. I am a musician and I have nothing to do with fraud. These are my friends who came to visit me. EFCC should leave me alone.”

The EFCC has not responded to Skales’ allegations as at the time of filing this report.
