EFCC Grants Bail to Bobrisky, Crossdresser to Face Charges for Alleged Financial Crimes

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has granted bail to popular crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, following his arrest and detention on allegations of financial misconduct.

Bobrisky was apprehended by the EFCC at its Lagos command on Wednesday night, April 3rd, 2024, over accusations related to the abuse of the Nigerian currency, spraying of Naira notes, and currency mutilation.

The arrest came after a video surfaced showing Bobrisky allegedly flaunting wads of new Naira notes at the premiere of a movie in Lagos on March 24, 2024.

Sources within the EFCC confirmed that Bobrisky has been granted bail, but he has yet to meet the undisclosed bail conditions for his release. The specific conditions were not disclosed by the EFCC.

In addition to being granted bail, Bobrisky faces legal proceedings as the EFCC has filed a six-count charge against him. The charges, filed by EFCC Prosecutor Rotimi Oyedepo and seven other lawyers, include allegations of abuse of the Naira and money laundering.

According to the charge sheet, Bobrisky is accused of tampering with various sums of money by spraying them while dancing at social events in different locations.

The offences allegedly occurred between July 2023 and March 2024. Additionally, Bobrisky is accused of failing to submit declarations of activities for his company, Bob Express, during periods when substantial sums were deposited into the company’s account.

Bobrisky is scheduled to be arraigned before Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday to face the charges brought against him by the EFCC.

The legal proceedings against Bobrisky highlight the EFCC’s efforts to combat financial crimes and uphold the integrity of Nigeria’s financial system. As the case unfolds, it will undoubtedly attract significant attention, given Bobrisky’s prominence in popular culture and social media circles.
