EFCC Warns Against Planned Protest, Cites Threat to National Security

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a statement warning against a planned protest by a shadowy group, which the agency claims may be a front for corrupt individuals to instigate a national uprising.

According to the EFCC, the group has been recruiting young Nigerians, including students, on social media to protest against the Commission and its enforcement of cybercrime laws.

While the EFCC acknowledges citizens’ right to peaceful protest, it emphasizes that it will not tolerate any actions leading to lawlessness, particularly around its offices nationwide.

In collaboration with other security agencies, the Commission is implementing measures to counter potential threats to national security.

The EFCC has appealed to parents, guardians, and educational institutions to ensure that their wards are not exploited by those with corrupt motives.

The Commission reiterated that its fight against corruption and cybercrime is aimed at safeguarding the future of Nigerian youth, which is threatened if Nigeria becomes further known globally as a haven for fraud.
