Eight Cross-dressers Jailed And Fined In Kano State

Eight young men who dressed as women and attended a wedding in Kano State have been sentenced to three months in prison and fined N20,000 each by a Sharia court. They were also ordered to receive 10 lashes of cane each as part of their punishment.

The cross-dressers were arrested by the Kano State Hisbah Board, a religious police force that enforces Islamic law in the state, on October 31. They were caught during a raid at a wedding in Kofar Waika in the Gwale Local Government Area of the state.

According to the board, the suspects were arrested following a tip-off by good Samaritans that young men dressed in female Fulani attire attended and were dancing at a wedding. The board said that the cross-dressers violated the Sharia law that prohibits homosexuality and indecency.

The suspects pleaded guilty to the offence and were arraigned before the Hisbah Sharia Court presided over by Khadi Tanimu-Sani. The judge said that the sentence was meant to serve as a deterrent to others who engage in such acts.

The cross-dressers were taken to a correctional facility where they will serve their jail term and pay their fines. They will also produce one surety each or face an extension of their imprisonment.

The Kano State Hisbah Board has been cracking down on immoral activities and enforcing Sharia law in the state. The board has banned alcohol, gambling, prostitution, and other vices. It has also arrested and prosecuted people for blasphemy, adultery, fornication, and sodomy.
