Ekiti Workers To Get N15,000 Wage Award For Six Months

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has announced a N15,000 wage award for all workers and a N10,000 wage award for all pensioners in the state for the next six months.

The wage award, which takes effect from this month, is aimed at easing the economic hardship faced by the workers and pensioners amid the rising cost of living in the country.

The Governor also approved the payment of July 2018 salary arrears to local government workers and primary school teachers in the 16 local government areas of the state.

The payment is in line with the Governor’s commitment to improve the welfare and wellbeing of the workers and pensioners, as well as to clear the backlog of their entitlements owed by previous administrations.

The Governor had previously implemented some palliative measures for the workers and pensioners, such as paying some outstanding entitlements, extending the minimum wage to senior workers on level 14 to 17, and providing shuttle buses for workers and students in the state.

The Governor praised the workers and pensioners for their dedication, reliability and understanding, and urged them to continue to support his administration as the engine room of the government.

He assured them that he would continue to take care of their welfare within the available resources, and work towards reaching an agreement on the minimum wage for workers.
