El-Rufai Makes History: First Non-South-Westerner to Receive ‘Gbobaniyi Of Ijebuland’ Title

In a momentous ceremony, the Awujale of Ijebuland, His Royal Majesty Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Ogbagba II, bestowed the prestigious title of ‘Gbobaniyi of Ijebuland’ upon Malam Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State.

This historic event unfolded on Saturday and stands as a significant milestone, marking El-Rufai as the first Nigerian outside the southwest to receive a chieftaincy title from the revered Awujale during his remarkable 64-year reign.

Joined by his longtime ally, Jimi Lawal, El-Rufai expressed gratitude for the honor. Jimi Lawal was also recognized with dual chieftaincy titles alongside his wife Maryam, acknowledging their noteworthy contributions to the Ijebu Kingdom and Nigeria.
