Electricity Thief Dies While Trying to Cut Transformer Cable

A man who was attempting to steal electricity from a power line in Nigeria met his tragic end on Monday night, when he was electrocuted by a high voltage wire.

The incident occurred at Ashipa village on the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway, where the man had climbed a ladder to cut a blue phase wire from the Mowe 33KV feeder, a source of electricity supply for the area.

According to Mr Abdulrazaq Jimoh, the Regional Head of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), the man was found dead on the ground the next day, with his tools and shoes beside him.

Jimoh said that the IBEDC officials had detected a missing phase on the feeder on Monday evening and had dispatched a team to locate and fix the fault. He said that the team discovered the cut wire and the body of the man at the spot.

He said that the case was reported to the Owode Egba Divisional Police Station, where the police conducted a preliminary investigation and took the corpse to the mortuary.

Jimoh expressed his sadness over the incident and urged the public to refrain from tampering with the electricity infrastructure, as it could endanger their lives and disrupt the power supply.

He said that this was the third time that such an incident had happened in the area and appealed for more security and vigilance from the authorities and the community.

He also assured the customers of the IBEDC that the company was working hard to restore the power supply and improve the quality of service.
