Emir Sanusi’s Triumphant Return: “Tinubu Resisted Pressure To Interfere In My Reinstatement” – Sanusi

In a dramatic turn of events, Muhammadu Sanusi II has been reinstated as the Emir of Kano, marking a significant reversal of the 2020 decision that saw him deposed. The reinstatement follows the signing of the new Kano Emirate Council Law by Governor Abba Yusuf, effectively annulling the 2019 law that fragmented the Kano emirate into five separate entities.

In an exclusive interview with Television Continental (TVC), Sanusi lauded President Bola Tinubu for his steadfast refusal to meddle in what he described as a “local matter,” despite considerable pressure to do so. The former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor reflected on his dethronement, which was based on “unsubstantiated allegations” of insubordination, a charge he was never allowed to contest.

Sanusi’s return is celebrated as a rectification of the wrongs inflicted upon the history, culture, and traditions of Kano. “I was appointed the 14th Emir of the single emirate of Kano in June 2014, and now I am reappointed,” he stated, acknowledging the period of division as an affront to Kano’s legacy.

The Emir extended his gratitude to Allah for the restoration of unity within the emirate and expressed his appreciation to President Tinubu for his principled stance. He emphasized the president’s respect for the constitution and the separation of powers, noting Tinubu’s resistance to federal involvement in the state’s affairs.

Sanusi’s reinstatement is not merely a return to power but an opportunity to amend past errors and enhance his previous tenure. “Life is a continuous learning process,” he remarked, indicating his readiness to embark on a renewed journey of service.

The Emir also conveyed his thanks to the Kano state government and security services for their role in upholding law and order during this transitional period. He reassured both the state and federal governments of his unwavering loyalty and cooperation, promising to be a reliable friend, confidant, and advisor.

This historic reinstatement is a testament to the enduring strength of Kano’s cultural institutions and the resilience of its leaders in the face of political adversity.
