Enforcement of Anti-Gay Law: Delta State Police Arrests Over 100

The Delta State Police Command apprehended more than 100 individuals suspected of participating in a same-sex wedding event at a hotel in Delta state.

The official X (formerly Twitter) account of the state police shared that the suspects are to be presented publicly in an upcoming live broadcast on Facebook.

According to reports from Punch, this incident follows a trend of authorities detaining and showcasing individuals suspected of engaging in homosexual activities since the enactment of the anti-gay law in 2014.

This legislation prescribes a 14-year imprisonment for individuals found guilty of engaging in same-sex relations.

In a similar case in December 2020, the Lagos State Police Command arrested 10 individuals believed to be involved in homosexual activities at a brothel in the Okota area.

Earlier, in 2018, the police in the state also paraded 57 men for their alleged participation in homosexual activities at Kelly Ann hotel in Egbeda. Additionally, in January 2022, eight individuals were detained on charges of alleged gay activities at a hotel in Isolo, Lagos.
