Every Man Should Have Multiple Women’: Seun Kuti Rejects Monogamy, Advocates for Multiple Partnerships

In a bold statement that has sparked widespread debate, Nigerian musician Seun Kuti has publicly denounced the concept of monogamy, advocating instead for polygamous relationships. During his appearance on the ‘Bahd & Boujee’ podcast, Kuti made a case for polygamy, suggesting that it is a sign of power and affluence.

Kuti, known for his controversial takes and Afrobeat music, argued that “Monogamy doesn’t work,” and that “As a powerful man, you must have the support of numerous powerful goddesses.” He emphasized the importance of women in a man’s life, not just as partners but as powerful figures placed by the ancestors.

Reflecting on his father, the legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Seun highlighted that Fela had over 100 concubines and famously married 27 women in a single ceremony, showcasing his own interpretation of power and influence.

Despite his advocacy for polygamy, Seun Kuti is known to be in a monogamous marriage with Yetunde Kuti. His statements have ignited conversations about traditional African practices, gender roles, and the modern dynamics of relationships.
