Female Soldier Arrested After Complaining About Sexual Harassment

Army Whistleblower on Sexual Harassment Arrested and Flown to Abuja

A female soldier, Ruth Ogunleye, who exposed the sexual harassment and oppression she faced from some senior army officers in a viral video has been arrested and flown to Abuja from Lagos.

The soldier,Ruth Ogunleye , was serving at the Cantonment Medical Centre, Ojo, Lagos, when she made the video, accusing Col. I.B. Abdulkareem, Col. G.S. Ogor and Brig. Gen. I.B. Solebo of threatening her life and career for rejecting their sexual advances.

She alleged that the officers had locked her up several times, ejected her from her apartment, put her in a psychiatric hospital for a month without medication, frozen her bank account, denied her access to military courses and passes, and attempted to rape her on multiple occasions.

She said she had written a petition and sought the intervention of another senior and junior officer but to no avail. She also said she feared for her life and held the officers responsible for anything that might happen to her.

A top military source told PRISTINEGIST that the soldier was arrested and moved to Abuja by air on Tuesday morning, accompanied by military police in mufti.

The source did not disclose the reason for the arrest or the whereabouts of the soldier in Abuja.

The Nigerian Army has not issued any official statement on the matter.
