FG To Arrest Skit Makers Who Release Content Online Without FG Approval

In a bold move, the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has set its sights on skit makers who release content online without proper approval. Led by Shaibu Husseini, the board issued a stern warning to filmmakers and content creators, urging them to cease producing, promoting, and distributing unapproved material across platforms like Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Twitter.

The NFVCB expressed deep concern over the surge in content that violates Nigeria’s censorship laws. “We’ve noticed the audacity of some unscrupulous filmmakers and content creators who blatantly disregard our country’s legal provisions,” the board stated in a social media announcement.

Of particular focus is same-sex content, which the NFVCB unequivocally deems illegal in Nigeria. As the authority responsible for classifying films and videos, the board emphasized that all content—whether skits or music videos—must undergo NFVCB classification before distribution or exhibition.

The 2014 Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act looms large as a reminder to creators. The board clarified, “Publicly showcasing same-sex relationships in Nigeria is an offense, whether directly or indirectly.” Furthermore, any film or video content released without proper NFVCB classification is deemed illegal.

In a bid to enforce these regulations, the NFVCB announced its collaboration with security agencies to identify and take legal action against those flouting the rules. Skit makers, beware—the crackdown is underway! 🚫🎥💥
