Fuel Subsidy Removal: Petrol Sells At N500 Per Litre In Katsina

Katsina State is experiencing a fuel shortage as huge lines of vehicles reappear at certain filling stations that started operating on Tuesday.

Some drivers revealed that the independent oil marketers who control the gas stations had raised the product’s pump price from the authorized N210 to N450.

This came after President Bola Tinubu’s Monday inaugural speech announcement that fuel subsidies would be eliminated.

Black markets have already started doing business again in several parts of the city and near the ring road. A 10-litre jerrycan of fuel is reportedly being sold for between N6,000 and N7,000, while a 20-liter container was going for between N16,000 and N18,000.

It was noted that the NNPCL giant facilities in the state capital, though, are not distributing the commodity because there aren’t enough supplies available.

Similar to this, numerous independent marketers I spoke with in Katsina stated that they were still awaiting their allocation and emphasized that they would dump and distribute to the general population as soon as their cars arrived.
