Gov.AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq Approves Subsidy for 2024 BECE Expenses

In a bid to alleviate financial burdens on families, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has given the green light for the subsidization of the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) expenses for public school students across the state.

A total of 55,150 candidates are set to benefit from this initiative, maintaining a fixed examination fee of N2,500, the same as the previous year.

The decision, announced by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Peter Amogbonjaye, on Monday, January 22, 2024, aims to provide relief amidst concerns of potential fee increases due to inflation and the escalating costs of conducting the examination.

All candidates in public schools will only be required to pay N2,500, a considerable reduction from the anticipated N5,000 or more, which was under consideration due to economic factors.

The statement emphasized that this subsidy aligns with the administration’s commitment to supporting students and their parents, preventing any dropout scenarios due to financial constraints.

However, a stern warning has been issued to public officials, cautioning against extortion from parents under any guise. The statement emphasizes that individuals caught engaging in such activities will face the consequences of their actions.

The subsidy is anticipated to benefit all candidates participating in the 2024 BECE, fostering an environment conducive to academic success and inclusivity.
