Gov. Akeredolu Of Ondo State Dies At 67

Ondo State is plunged into mourning as Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has passed away after a prolonged battle with leukemia.

The 67-year-old governor breathed his last in Lagos, according to a family source who spoke exclusively to SaharaReporters on Wednesday.

Sources reveal that Governor Akeredolu had been under the care of State House doctors up until his demise, as the severity of his condition prevented him from being flown abroad for treatment.

However, efforts were reportedly made to source dialysis machines for his undisclosed location in Lagos last week.

The late governor’s health struggles came to the forefront in September when he returned to Nigeria after a three-month medical leave in Germany.

Despite his attempts to continue governing from Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, public outrage ensued, compelling him to take another medical leave recently.

President Bola Tinubu had directed Governor Akeredolu to hand over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, during this recent period of medical incapacitation. Aiyedatiwa has been holding the reins as Acting Governor in Akeredolu’s absence.

The passing of Governor Akeredolu marks a significant loss for Ondo State, and the entire nation mourns the departure of a respected leader. As tributes pour in, the focus shifts to the enduring legacy he leaves behind and the challenges of navigating the political landscape without his presence.
