Gov. Ganduje Appointed Interim APC National Chairman

Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the former Governor of Kano State, has reportedly been designated as the interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to New Telegraph, the Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu made the appointment following the resignation of the former National Chairman, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu.

However, according to a source within the presidency, the idea of making Ganduje the Chairman of the party started on Monday when the Chairman of the PGF met with him in Abuja and informed him of the president’s intention. The matter was finalized on Wednesday when the President and three governors held a meeting with Ganduje.

Earlier, both Abdullahi Adamu and the National Secretary of the party, Iyiola Omisore, had resigned from their positions ahead of the National Working Committee meeting initially scheduled for Tuesday, 19th July.

Assuming no last-minute changes, Senator Abubakar Kyari, who had been appointed as Acting National Chairman on Monday, will be succeeded by Ganduje in the role.

Ganduje’s appointment is intended to serve as the interim national chairman of the ruling party until the party’s convention takes place later this year.

President Tinubu instructed Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, who chairs the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), to obtain the support of his colleagues and other important stakeholders for Ganduje’s appointment.

The source confirmed that the decision is practically sealed, and Ganduje will first be announced as the interim National Chairman before his appointment is officially ratified at the party’s convention.

News of Ganduje’s selection for the party’s top position was met with jubilation in Kano State.
