Governor Abdulrahman Approves Cash Support for Road Setback Victims

The Kwara State Government led by Governor  Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has approved financial support for 61 business owners impacted by the enforcement of road setbacks in the state capital.

This was revealed in a statement released on Friday 14th of June, 2024 by Dr. Abdulwasiu Olayinka Tejidini, the Acting General Manager of the Kwara State Social Investment Programmes (KWASSIP).

The initiative aims to prevent job losses and business collapses following the enforcement action. The event saw attendance from notable figures, including the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Geographic Information Service (KwarGIS), ESV Abdulkareem Babatunde Suleiman; the Director of Physical Planning, TPL Abdulhakeem Abdulsalam; the Executive Secretary of KWASSIP, Mrs. Roseline Ajanaku; and the Senior Special Assistant to the Kwara Governor on Communications, Ibraheem Abdullateef.

Dr. Tejidini highlighted that the beneficiaries were carefully selected based on assessments of their losses, which determined the specific amounts allocated to each person. “Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, in his kindheartedness, approved support for the affected business owners to grant them relief and help raise their businesses after the incident,” Dr. Tejidini stated.

The financial support was distributed as follows: ten individuals received N801,550 each, two received N572,000 each, and forty-nine received N400,000 each. The beneficiaries were business owners from Post Office, Tanke, and Ahmadu Bello Way.

ESV Abdulkareem Suleiman of KwarGIS described the intervention as a deeply selfless act, noting that the government was not legally obligated to provide compensation. “The enforcement of the setback was legal.

The affected individuals had a Certificate of Temporary Occupation (CTO), which can be revoked with a seven-day notice. We acted according to the law. Kwara State Government is not liable to offer any compensation. This gesture is purely out of the Governor’s magnanimity and is highly commendable,” he said.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Mary Ogbona shared her delight and surprise at the unexpected assistance. “I am very happy for this help. We didn’t expect it. We thank Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his act of magnanimity. This money will help us settle down back to business quicker and better. May God bless him.”

This support scheme underscores the Kwara State Government’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens, demonstrating an exemplary act of compassion and community support.
