Governor Fintiri Begins Payment Of N70,000 Minimum Wage To Adamawa Workers

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has begun paying the newly approved N70,000 minimum wage to state workers.

The development was corroborated by several individuals, including state employees, who described the governor as a “man of his word.”

Remember that the Minimum Wage bill was signed into law by President Bola Tinubu in July after protracted negotiations with organized labor.

Other than the governors of Lagos and Edo states, Governor Fintiri is the first state governor to enact the higher minimum wage, despite other governors voicing reservations about their capacity to pay the increase owing to financial limitations.

The governments of Lagos and Edo State claimed that their employees were already receiving a minimum of N70,000 per month.

Local government employees in Adamawa will begin getting the higher pay in September, while state employees are being paid the minimum wage.
