HEARTLESS: Man Hacks Lover With Machete For Missing Valentine Date

A 30-year-old man, Amber Ubung, has been arrested by the Cross River State Police Command for allegedly hacking his lover, Blessing Onawu, 25, with a machete for failing to honour their Valentine date.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Gyogon Grimah, who confirmed the arrest to journalists in Calabar on Thursday, February 22, 2024, said the incident occurred at Okuni community in Ikom Local Government Area of the state.

According to the CP, the suspect had given his lover N7,000 to make her hair and promised to spend Valentine’s night with her at his house.

However, when she did not show up, the suspect became enraged and armed himself with a machete.

He then stormed the house of Onawu and attacked her with the weapon, inflicting several cuts on her body with the intention to kill her.

The CP said that the victim’s mother, who tried to intervene, was also injured by the suspect.

He said that a team of policemen were quickly deployed to the scene and arrested the suspect with the machete.

He added that the suspect was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and would be charged to court as soon as possible.

The CP also said that the victim and her mother were receiving treatment in different hospitals.

He appealed to the members of the public to assist the police with useful information to combat crime in the state.

He assured the law-abiding citizens that the command, under his leadership, would continue to ensure that Cross River remains the most peaceful state in the country.
