Herdsman Killed In Anambra State

The leader of the South East branch of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MCBAN), Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, has confirmed the killing of a herdsman in Anambra State.

According to Siddiki, who is also the Siriki Fulani in Anambra, the victim was Zakari Sale, a herdsman who lived in Ukwulu community of Dunokofia Local Government Area. He said Sale was found dead in a bush near the community on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, after he went missing two days earlier.

Siddiki said Sale had been shot in the head and left leg, and his body was taken to Chukwumemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital Amaku-Awka for confirmation. He said he reported the case to the police at Dunokofia Divisional Police Headquarters Ukpo, who helped with the evacuation.

He added that Sale was buried according to Islamic rites, and appealed for calm among his members. Also, he revealed that 15 cows belonging to his members were killed in the same community two weeks before Sale’s death.

He called on the state governor, Chukwuma Soludo, to reinforce the farmers/herders committee set up by his predecessor, Willie Obiano, to address such issues in the state. Also, he also urged the security agencies to bring the perpetrators of the heinous act to justice.

He commended the traditional ruler of Ukwulu community for being a good leader and advising his members to temporarily leave the community until the security situation improved. He said some criminals in the area often disguised themselves as Fulani herders.
