The Kano State Hisbah Board has seized a truck carrying over 24,000 bottles of assorted alcoholic beverages from smugglers on Tuesday night.

The board’s Director General, Alhaji Abba Sufi, made this known on Wednesday while inspecting the truck at the board’s headquarters. He said the truck was intercepted along Zaria Road by the Hisbah personnel who were on patrol.

Sufi said the board was determined to stop the smuggling of alcohol and other prohibited substances into the state, in accordance with the Sharia law adopted by the state government. He praised the Hisbah personnel for their vigilance and cooperation with other stakeholders in the fight against alcohol smuggling.

He also warned the smugglers to desist from their illegal activities or face the wrath of the law.

The acting Assistant Commander General, Intelligent Crimes Dispatch Unit of the board, Fu’ad Dorayi, said the truck driver and two other suspects were arrested and would be prosecuted accordingly.

Dorayi thanked the Dawakin Kudu Hisbah Command and the public for their support and urged them to report any suspicious vehicles along the major roads in the state.
